Therapy for Men and Boys in San Antonio and Online Throughout Texas
At Lockhart Counseling & Consulting, we don’t just offer therapy for men and boys—we specialize in it.
Dr. Lockhart leverages years of experience working in private practice, intensive outpatient, and inpatient settings to provide tailored, specialized treatment for men and boys seeking a better understanding of who they are, how they fit in the world, and how to handle life’s toughest challenges.

The short answer is yes. The long answer is it depends.
Just like everyone else, men and boys can experience anxiety, trauma, depression, trouble handling big emotions, and other mental health concerns—but it doesn’t always show up the same way.
For example, men often tend to experience signs of anxiety and depression as anger, checking out in relationships, not caring about hobbies and interests anymore, and feeling numb. Men and boys may also feel pressure to hide or ignore their emotions.
I take all of this into account when working with clients. You won’t be expected to lay it all on the table on day one. If you know you’re struggling but don’t know why, that’s okay, too. I’ll work with you to figure out what’s going on and what you can do about it.

Therapy can be helpful for a number of issues. Some common examples include anger/irritability, relationship concerns, work issues, feeling stuck in life or on edge all the time, fatherhood, and loneliness.

The length of therapy services ranges broadly based on what you’re trying to address in life. For some people, goals can be achieved in a few months of weekly sessions. For others, change may come more slowly.
While progress can be unpredictable, I will collaborate with you to identify recommended session frequency and estimated length of treatment.

Therapy looks a little different for everyone. I work hard to tailor services to what my clients need. That means you won’t get a cookie-cutter experience with me as your therapist.
With that said, here are a few examples of what we might do:
In our first session, I’ll ask you some questions about what’s bringing you in, what you’re hoping to achieve, and what life looks like for you right now (e.g., job, friends, family, strengths).
After the initial session, we might focus on building skills, navigating barriers to success, addressing symptoms, or deepening your understanding of yourself. This is where things start to look different for everyone.
If you’re specifically seeking EMDR services, we’ll follow a more structured treatment process based on the established EMDR protocol.

For clients who elect to use their insurance, your copay is determined by the insurance company. You should contact them for the exact amount, and I will also complete a verification of benefits prior to our first session. I am in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Carelon, and Quest.
For clients who chose not to use their insurance, do not have insurance, or have insurance for which I am not an in-network provider, my standard 50-minute session rate is $150. I do offer a limited number of sliding scale spots for eligible clients.
For specific questions about fees, please use the contact form above or email drlockhart@lockhartmentalhealth.com.

That is Kirby. I’ve found that people like dogs, and he is a very good boy.
